As Told by John Cushman
To my friend, John Cushman, who walked with God and who wasnot afraid to tell people about Him.
A long time ago, in a land flowing with milk and honey, there
lived a little bee, who loved going from flower to flower and
taking the pollen back to his hive.
One day, this little bee stumbled upon a treasure trove of
flowers. They were everywhere in this place. The bee was
thrilled because he had never seen so many flowers in his
life.
Everyday, the little bee would fly to this place and collect his
pollen to take back to his hive. The other bees did not know
where he was finding so much pollen, and the little bee never
told them because he thought to himself that if they found
out where the place was, so many of his friends would go
there, that the pollen would run out. Let them find their own
pollen, the little bee thought.
The little bee loved the place with the flowers because
everyday, there seemed to be lots flowers, and they were all
different kinds. The little bee had found a good thing, and he
was not going to let anyone ruin it.
One day, the little bee was in the flower place, collecting his
pollen for the day, and he saw two men carrying another
man. The little bee did not care about the men, as long as
they left him alone to collect his pollen. The little bee
watched as the two men put the other man, who was not
moving, into a hole in a rock. The little bee finished
collecting his pollen and went home.
The next day, the little bee came back to the flower place, and he was thrilled to see many more flowers. Most of them were by a large rock that had been rolled over the hole where the two men had put the other man. The little bee began to quickly gather his pollen.
Suddenly, some women came, and they were crying. They,
too, had flowers, but the little bee got scared because he
thought they might be coming to take away the flowers that
were already there. He decided to scare the women away,
and he buzzed around their heads. The women shooed at
him and then put the flowers down. The little bee realized
they had come to bring more flowers, so he left them alone.
The women stood at the rock and cried some more. The little
bee went about his business, keeping an eye on them.
Eventually, the women left, and the little bee decided it was
time to go home.
The next day, the little bee went back to the flower place very early in the morning because he was worried that more
people might come, and they might take his flowers after all.
When the little bee got to the flower place, it was still
somewhat dark, and he was happy to see that there were still a lot of flowers. The little bee flew around, looking for some good flowers.
The little bee landed on a beautiful red rose, and he started gathering the pollen. Suddenly, the ground shook, and the little bee almost fell to the ground. He caught himself and flew into the air.
The ground continued to shake, and the little bee was startled when he saw light coming from the rock that had been rolled over the hole in the bigger rock. The rock rolled to the side, and the light coming from inside the hole was almost blinding. The little bee was very scared, and he closed his eyes.
Eventually, the shaking stopped, and the little bee could tell the light was gone, so he opened his eyes. Standing in the entrance to the hole in the rock was a man. The man looked around and suddenly, he vanished right in front of the little bee’s eyes. The little bee was amazed. He sat on a branch and wondered who that man was.
The little bee collected some more pollen and headed home. It was so early that he could still come back, he thought.
Later in the morning, the little bee came back to the flower place. While he was collecting the pollen, he saw some women coming down a path, carrying some things. They appeared very sad as they walked, and they talked among themselves.
When the women got closer to the rock that had been rolled away, they stopped. The little bee saw them put their hands over their mouths. He saw another man who talked with the women. After the man said a few words to them, the women turned and started running back up the path.
The little bee wondered what was going on. The man who had talked to the women had disappeared, and the little bee decided to check out the rock. He went near and flew inside the hole. There was nothing there, except for a cloth rolled up at the end of a long rock.
The little bee flew back outside, and he sat on a flower, thinking what all this might mean. As the little bee was thinking, he looked up and saw two men running toward him. One of them was running faster than the other, and he was coming straight for the little bee.
The little bee tried to fly away, but the last thing he saw was the man’s foot over him.
For the next few weeks and days, the King who had risen out of the rock appeared to many of His followers. One day, the King met with his disciples, and He commissioned them to teach people what He had taught them and to make disciples for Him.
Then, suddenly, the King rose in the air. As He got higher and higher, the disciples looked and looked at Him. But no one saw a little bee flying in circles around the LORD Jesus, as He ascended. The little bee was very happy because he now knew that he had been part of something very special. The King disappeared into the clouds, and with Him, the little bee.
Not The End, But Actually, A New Beginning
